sirmitchell:

When I was a kid, I LOVED Halloween. I loved everything about it, but my favorite part was the month leading up to it. I spent many hours drawing ghosts, monsters and Jack O Lanterns, etc.

This was a little bit of that, mixed with a fun little experiment. I wanted to redraw something I did before I started taking art very seriously. I drew this in 2003 when I was about 21, and I will tell you, I was VERY happy with how it turned out. I thought it was really something cool….

I get a lot of people asking me how I got to where I am today (art wise) and I tell them what James Jean told me when I asked him that same question ( I AM NO JAMES JEAN ) when I was in art school. “The only secret to success is busting your ass” and that is the real answer. Some people have more “raw” talent but you can’t get the skills without hard work, and many many hours of practice (thousands).

My own personal advice, is never get comfortable with your current skill level, because that is the day you stop improving. Surround yourself with inspiring people. Always try new things, and never settle for a piece you are unhappy with.

I’m done ranting, if you have a specific question, feel free to ask me using the ask me anything button on the right side!
